Braised and baked turkey wings in gravy is one of the highlights of soul food cuisine, the traditional cuisine of African-Americans in the southern United States.Just imagine tender, juicy turkey meat soaked in gravy with a perfect balance of salty, spicy and slightly sweet.The gravy, rich with the flavors of onions, sweet peppers and a mixture of spices, gives each piece of meat a unique taste. The cooking process is simple and the end result is definitely worth the effort.
Place the turkey wings in a baking dish, sprinkle with onion and garlic powder, roasted chili powder, paprika, drizzle with olive oil and set aside
Peel and slice the onion into half rings and the sweet pepper into long slices.
Add half of the sliced vegetables to the turkey, fill with water, cover the mold with foil and bake for 1 hour and 25 minutes at 150 °C (300 °F). After baking, drain the juice into a separate container.
Heat the butter in a skillet, add the remaining vegetables, and season with two kinds of paprika. Cook over medium heat for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft, then add the flour and fry, stirring, for about another minute.
In 2-3 add the remaining juice from the baking process, stirring the contents of the pan well.
Add the broth, also in several additions, stirring constantly. Add salt and pepper to taste, bring to a boil, add the thyme leaves and remove from the heat.
Pour the sauce into the baking dish, spread the vegetables so that they are covered with the sauce, pour the sauce over the wings and place in the oven for another 30-35 minutes at 200 °C (400 °F).
